Travel Skin Care tips: YOUR SKIN AT 35,000 FEET

The Seat You Choose, the Skincare You Pack & How to Land With Your Glow Intact
We think about what skincare to pack, what facial to book, and when to schedule our spray tan — but rarely about what happens to our skin during the flight itself.
Aircraft cabins are extremely dry, which can leave skin feeling tighter, duller, and less comfortable by the time you land. The goal is not to overthink it. It is simply to prepare your skin well.
Travel Skincare Tips: DOES YOUR PLANE SEAT REALLY MATTER?
This is the interesting part.
There is not enough evidence to say that one exact row is officially the “best seat for your skin,” but different seats can change your experience slightly.
WINDOW SEAT
The window seat is the one I pay the most attention to because of light exposure.
Aircraft windows block much of UVB, but UVA exposure can still be a consideration. If you love the window, keep it — just wear broad-spectrum SPF and lower the shade when practical.
AISLE SEAT
This would probably be my choice.
Not because the aisle has better air for your skin, but because it makes it easier to get up, move around, drink water, and stay comfortable during a longer flight.
MIDDLE SEAT
There is no proven hydration benefit to sitting in the middle.
You may be farther from the window, but I would not choose the middle seat purely for skincare.
OVER THE WING
You may hear that sitting over the wing is better because the ride can feel more stable.
That may help with comfort on some flights, but there is not strong evidence showing that it actually keeps your skin more hydrated.
FRONT OR BACK OF THE PLANE?
Airflow and temperature can vary depending on the aircraft, but there is not enough evidence to declare the front or back of the cabin better for your complexion.
So rather than chasing the “perfect” row, choose the seat where you will feel most comfortable.
THE GLOW SEAT: WHERE WOULD I SIT?
Personally, I would choose the aisle.
I can move more easily, stay comfortable, and I am not sitting directly beside the window for hours.
But if I wanted the window?
I would absolutely take it.
I would just wear my SPF.
Your skincare should support your trip — not control your boarding pass.
BEFORE YOU FLY
Keep your skincare simple.
Gentle cleansing, a good moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF are usually enough.
If certain retinoids, acids, or exfoliating treatments tend to make your skin irritated or dry, consider giving your skin a quieter evening before a long flight.
Travel skincare should support the skin, not challenge it.
AT 35,000 FEET
You do not need a seven-step routine at your seat.
Moisturizer. Lip balm. Water. SPF when needed.
And one of the easiest things you can do?
Try not to constantly touch your face.
Sometimes the best travel skincare is simply doing less.
THE SPRAY TAN RULE
For vacation clients, I prefer scheduling an airbrush tan the day before flying whenever possible.
A developing tan does better without hours of seat-belt friction, tight clothing, sweating, hand washing, and prolonged sitting immediately afterward.
Giving the color time to develop and completing the proper first rinse before traveling makes the experience much easier.
For brides, timing is even more important.
A beautiful tan should never feel rushed.
BEFORE YOU FLY: CREATE THE FRESH CANVAS
Beautiful vacation skin begins before the airport.
Exfoliation, hydration, professional skincare, and thoughtful spray-tan timing all help create what I call the Fresh Canvas.
It is not about doing more.
It is about preparing the skin well.
THE GLOW REPORT TAKEAWAY
You do not need to fear airplane air or give up your favorite seat.
Choose what makes you comfortable.
Wear your SPF.
Moisturize.
Keep your skincare gentle.
And give your spray tan time to develop before travel whenever possible.
Beautiful skin does not begin when you arrive at your destination. It begins with how you prepare before you leave.
